Cheshire: Pub named best in county in national awards

The annual event names a total of 94 venues as the best in their respective counties, with the aim of highlighting the positive and inspiring work taking place in the UK hospitality industry.

In Cheshire, The Swan at Marbury rose to the top and was named as the best.

On the pub’s website it is described as a family owned country pub.

He adds: “Marbury is a lovely country town and The Swan is a lovely country pub.

“We have enjoyable food and drink, including wines we blend and import ourselves, comfortable, airy surroundings, and our staff go out of their way to be friendly and welcoming.

“Many people come to us specifically for the good food, others come to visit church or to walk in the beautiful surrounding countryside.”

Overjoyed pub and bar operators were informed of their achievements ahead of the grand final awards ceremony, which will take place in London on June 28.

There, the county winners will find out which pubs will take home a regional title, as well as which place will be named Best in the UK, and take home the overall award for National Pub & Bar of the Year.

Entries for the awards have been open since the beginning of the year, with hundreds of venues describing the details of their operation, summarizing the work that goes into design, training, team well-being, sustainability, food, drink , marketing and many other areas.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the level and quality of this year’s entries,” says Tristan O’Hana, editor of Pub & Bar magazine, which organizes the awards. “It just goes to show the great work that is being done in the UK hospitality industry. With outrageous energy costs, staff shortages and a punitive tax system, these companies are once again facing difficult times. Now more than ever it is vital that people support their local pubs and bars. So before the long Easter weekend, why not check out the best in your county?

In the grand final, other prizes will be awarded, such as Pub Brand of the Year, Pub Brand of the Year, Pub Chef of the Year and Sustainable Pub and Bar of the Year. The 15 regional winners will be announced ahead of the prestigious National Pub & Bar of the Year award, which in 2022 was won by The Frogmill in Cheltenham.
