M25 live traffic updates as accident near Waltham Abbey closes lane causing delays

There are major delays on the M25 this afternoon (March 31) after a crash near Waltham Abbey closed a lane in the carriageway clockwise around 4.30pm The crash occurred between junction 26 Waltham Abbey and junction 27 M11.


Congestion has built up to Junction 25 Enfield, according to the InRix traffic monitoring service. Essex Police and the East of England Ambulance Service were contacted for further information about this incident.

There were more previous lane closures around the motorway when flooding closed one lane, causing congestion to build up in Waltham Abbey. One lane was closed on the counter-clockwise carriageway between junction 25 A10 Great Cambridge Road (Enfield) and junction 24 A111 Stagg Hill (Potters Bar).

One lane closed by accident

One lane on the clockwise M25 near Waltham Abbey has been closed following an accident this afternoon.

The accident occurred between junction 26 Waltham Abbey and junction 27 M11. Congestion has built up to Junction 25 Enfield.

All lanes reopened

All lanes have now reopened following flooding on the M25 earlier. Some congestion remains.

All traffic temporarily held

All traffic is temporarily halted again while workers recover cones around the floodplain.

One lane remains closed due to flooding

One lane remains closed due to flooding between junctions 25 and 24. Congestion continues to build up to Waltham Abbey (junction 26).

Accident near Waltham Abbey

There has been an accident on the M25 clockwise between junction 26 (Waltham Abbey) and junction 27 (M11).

According to InRix, a car and a truck have been involved.

Two lanes have been closed.

Accident on the opposite road

There was also an accident on the opposite carriageway of the M25 this afternoon, causing delays on the clockwise lanes of the motorway.

National Highways tweeted: “Lane 1 of (4) is closed on the #M25 clockwise between J24 (#PottersBar) and J25 (#Enfield) after a multi-vehicle collision. #TrafficOfficers and recovery agents are on the scene and working to clear the involved vehicles and debris from the roadway.
