Notts County boss Luke Williams has been adamant there is no better venue in the division than Meadow Lane as the club is set to welcome another huge crowd for Community Day this weekend. .

The Magpies welcome Scunthorpe United to the East Midlands this Saturday, with both battling it out at opposite ends of the National League table.

Jimmy Dean’s side came into the game on the back of an impressive 4-1 win over Wealdstone last weekend, leaving them four points from safety with eight games remaining in their season.

Notts meanwhile remains hopeful of claiming the only automatic place in the division, but their title hopes were hit with a snag at The Hive Stadium a week ago, forced to settle for a point against Barnet, other promotion hopefuls.

This Saturday’s game is on pace to be another sellout after breaking the National League attendance record earlier in the season, with the club’s Community Day incentive of offering discounted tickets to fans as a great success, with the club confirming over 13,000 tickets had been sold.

And the Magpies head coach is looking forward to another special afternoon at Meadow Lane, but insists that the challenge Iron presents is entirely different from their meeting earlier in the season.

“They have everything to play for, just like we do,” Williams said.

“There is no better setting to play football, certainly in the division, and with this crowd, it’s going to be really special.

“It’s hard for me to know as it’s a team we haven’t played against because they have a lot of new players, so the previous time we played Scunthorpe is irrelevant to us, so now we’re playing a team for the first time. in this last stage of the season that is remarkable.

“We know it’s going to be a tough challenge, but we have to be ready to face all these challenges and be strong enough to try to win the game.”

Along with the Community Day fun, the club have also scheduled a minute of applause in the 17th minute for Iron fan Owen Newton, who sadly passed away on Monday morning.

And the Notts boss was on hand to send his condolences to the 17-year-old’s family, insisting he knows those in attendance will ensure the applause is delivered perfectly to help celebrate Owen’s life.

“It’s awful, but the one thing I’m sure of is that the reception at Meadow Lane will be brilliant.

“It will be delivered perfectly, I have no doubt, and what a great place to have the game and have so many people to show respect like that.

“I really hope it’s a good time for the family, the situation is dire and we hope to show our support.”
