York City 1-0 Barnet: Match moments and player ratings

These are the press takeaways from an impressive performance at the LNER Community Stadium.

THE MAN OF THE MATCH

After a quiet couple of weeks from Shaq Forde, the striker produced what was needed from him. A clinical finish with composure saw Forde score the winner in a match of many missed chances.

TIME OF THE MATCH

Forde’s goal sent the crowd wild, and it was coming. An exceptional finish to give York the three desperately needed points, as the striker deftly overcame the offside trap to run towards goal, before flicking the ball to Laurie Walker between the posts.

PARTY MOAN

Despite it being a good performance, City were perhaps lucky that Barnet created so little. Taking 18 shots during the match and only four on target is a concern, and with some of the missed opportunities, target practice may be needed.

PLAYER RATINGS

ryan whitey-6

Whitley did not have much to do with Barnet offering very little going forward. He only one shot in the entire game, which was tame. But Whitley did as asked.

Alex Hurst – 7

Another fine performance from Hurst down the right side, with the full-back coming close to scoring a goal and an assist on multiple occasions.

Michael Duckworth-7

Duckworth not only impressed on defense, but also provided some excellent crosses from set pieces, including one that Mark Ellis nearly hit on target.

Mark Ellis – 7

Ellis was very unlucky not to get on the scoreboard, but defensively he was very solid. Impressive again.

Adam Crookes – 7

Crookes was neat tonight, constantly bringing the ball forward and holding his position accordingly.

Alex Whittle-7

The left back was constantly pushing up and down that left side and it was very reassuring. He managed to keep Barnet’s wingers calm throughout the match while also offering an option down the road.

Paddy McLaughlin-7

Despite his poor miss from close range, McLaughlin did not show his age and constantly pressed and forced the Barnet midfield into multiple errors.

Olly Dyson-7

He had a somewhat uneventful first half, but provided more of an attacking output in the second half and came close to putting his name on the scoresheet.

Mitch Hancox-7

Another solid performance from Hancox who, as always, did his job. Hancox assisted McLaughlin by putting a lot of pressure on Barnet and he struggled to win the ball back.

Lenell John-Lewis-8

Despite missing multiple opportunities, John-Lewis was a good option alongside Forde. He had trouble getting the ball into the back of the net, but often held the ball well and spread it out to stretch Barnet out as much as possible. They struggled to deal with it today.

Shaq Forde – 8

Our man of the match. Another fine performance, a goal to add to his tally and a great effort from the 18-year-old striker.
