Applications are now open to win a free scholarship to study a degree at Birmingham City University.
Now in its ninth year, the initiative is run by the Millennium Point Charitable Trust and is fully funded by the charity and Birmingham City University, offering the opportunity for one lucky person to study an undergraduate course at BCU .
The winner will have more than 20 courses to choose from in the College of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment.
If you make it to the final, you will be invited to participate in a development workshop as well as a 121 mentoring session. These sessions will focus on your personal and professional growth by honing your interview and presentation skills in preparation for Judging Day of the Finalist Interview.
Meet Past Scholarship Winners
Hatem, an 18-year-old Yardley student, was last year’s winner of the scholarship that changed his life. He surprised the judges with his passion for his chosen topic on both application and judging days.
Hatem is now studying computer science at Birmingham City University. The Millennium Point Trust Scholarship has already funded eight inspiring young people from the region through their degrees, some of the students graduating and going on to pursue STEM careers.
Asima, a mother of five children, took the award in 2021. Speaking about her win, she said: “Winning the scholarship was a wonderful surprise. It allowed me, as a single parent, to focus on developing as a strong academic person instead of worrying about how to financially pay for what I have accomplished.
“Millennium Point has provided me with the financial and emotional support I need to continue to progress and achieve my degree.”
He urged future students to get involved, adding: “It’s very rare that you get an opportunity like this, take it and jump in!”
Who can apply?
What is the Millennium Point?
Millennium Point is a landmark public building and multi-award winning location in Birmingham city centre.
The venue is owned by the Millennium Point Charitable Trust (MPT). Everything you do as an owner and event venue feeds back to the charity to support the growth of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in the West Midlands.
MPT accomplishes this by delivering projects and funding initiatives like the Millennium Point Scholarship and by providing support to organizations and individuals throughout the region.
Applications are now open and you have until March 17 to apply online. The application process is simple, consisting of a series of questions about yourself and why you think you should obtain a free degree at Birmingham City University.
