Firefighters live on Bull Street after the incident at the Birmingham Civil Justice Center

Thirty firefighters are today at the scene of a spill of an unknown substance at the Birmingham Civil Justice Center in the city centre. The Minories shopping arcade has also been closed.

Six crews from the West Midlands Fire Service attend the Lord Chancellors office in Bull Street. They were present after 4:00 pm today, Tuesday March 28, and the road is currently closed.

West Midlands Police said they were called to Bull Street at around 4:35pm after the building was evacuated. A cordon is in place as fire crews “investigate the spill of an unknown substance.”

‘Spill of unknown substance’ being investigated

A spill of an unknown substance is being investigated.

In a statement, West Midlands Police said: “We are currently at the Lord Chancellors office, Bull Street, Birmingham.

“We were called to Bull Street around 4:35 p.m. after the building was evacuated.

“A cordon is in place as colleagues from the West Midlands Fire Service investigate the spill of an unknown substance.”

Now, 30 firefighters from six fire teams are currently at the scene of the incident.

The cordon has been extended.

‘Avoid area’ – Fire Department

The fire service has advised people to avoid the area.

Their statement added: “The incident also affected West Midlands Metro tram services, which are unable to run onto Bull Street from either direction.

“Follow West Midlands Metro on Twitter for updates on tram travel. Local businesses and residents are asked to avoid area. Cordons are in effect.”

Bull Street currently closed

The West Midlands Fire Service have confirmed that Bull Street has been cordoned off.

In a statement, the fire service said: “At 16:07 on March 28, crews were mobilized to an incident on Bull Street in Birmingham.

“We are there with colleagues from West Midlands Police and the West Midlands Ambulance Service.

“Due to the incident, which is ongoing, Bull Street is currently closed.”
