Steven Gerrard to take up new role following Aston Villa sacking

The report indicates that Gerrard, who made 114 appearances for England in his playing days, will join Jill Scott and former Villa midfielder Joe Cole. Gareth Southgate’s side will face Italy in Naples on Thursday (7:45pm kickoff) before hosting Ukraine at Wembley on Sunday (5pm kickoff).

Watkins may perhaps be particularly aggrieved after scoring six in his last seven, before the team’s announcement, as he looks to add to his tally of seven England games so far.
