Bolton’s Cost of Living Partnership reach MJ Awards final

Bolton’s Cost of Living Partnership has been shortlisted for the 2023 MJ Awards, which recognize outstanding work by local authorities.

The partnership team is among the finalists in the “Innovation in Partnerships” category with the winner to be announced at a ceremony in London on June 23.

Bolton Council has championed the local Cost of Living association, which is made up of over 30 different businesses, charities and voluntary organisations.

They work together to provide essential advice and support to people struggling with high energy prices, access to food, debt management and general finances.

Regular meetings have been held over the last year for the association to plan, coordinate and deliver Bolton’s response to the cost of living crisis.

The result is a comprehensive package of support services for local residents that includes food packages, grocery vouchers, energy payments, household essentials, travel costs, tips on cooking on a tight budget, legal advice and about debt and support for mental well-being.

There have been various ways in which the council has supported residents in need.

In recent months, more than 15,000 Bolton families have received food support, especially during school holidays.

A further £855,000 worth of household essentials and food has also been distributed through Bolton’s Fund and a network of Warm Welcome centers has been set up across the district to help people seek shelter from the cold, grab a hot drink, snacks, meet others, join fun activities and get expert advice.

Several cost of living counseling sessions were also provided throughout the city, attracting over 700 residents seeking guidance from many different organizations.

Sue Johnson, Chief Executive of Bolton Council, said: “Bolton is lucky to have so many outstanding charities and institutions making initiatives like the Cost of Living Partnership possible.

“The MJ Awards are very prestigious and reaching the final is testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in the association.

“This recognition is for the entire Bolton community, who have come together to support those fighting the rising cost of living.”
