MTX wins contract for two more operating theaters at Royal Bolton Hospital

MTX has been awarded a new contract to deliver two more state-of-the-art operating rooms at Royal Bolton Hospital using modern construction methods to ensure a faster, greener, safer and more cost-effective delivery.

The company is nearing completion of two operating rooms that will be in service later this year, to help minimize the backlog of surgeries resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The new contract will create a second-story extension to the current single-story development, adding a further two theaters to the original development and creating a total of four new theaters with room accommodations and dedicated ground floor rooms.

By utilizing Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), MTX ensures that compliant facilities minimize construction time by up to 50% and waste by up to 60%, while providing exceptional quality facilities.

David Hartley, Managing Director of MTX, explained: “We are delighted to build two more operating theaters at Royal Bolton. The latest contract award continues a five-year relationship with the Bolton NHS Foundation Trust and is a testament to the hard work and experience of the MTX team.”

The theaters will provide increased capacity for both Bolton and Greater Manchester and help reduce waiting lists in the region. Careful project management by the MTX site team combined with MMC principles limits disruptions and improves speed of delivery, minimizing the impact on patient care during the construction period.

The four ultra-modern theaters are being built in what was a staff car park near the Princess Anne maternity unit. They have been designed to work flexibly and accommodate adult hospital and day patients. Day case surgeries include otolaryngology, oral, urology, and general specialties.
