The 19,618 fans who bought tickets from Liverpool’s official allocation will be entitled to a full refund after events away from the Stade de France, including severe congestion problems and police tear gas, causing the start to be delayed more than a half. one hour.

However, Madrid fans will have to meet certain criteria set out by UEFA, mainly related to those who were unable to access the stadium before the scheduled kick-off time of 9pm or not at all.

But the La Liga club said the findings of an independent report published last month saying UEFA was primarily responsible for failures that nearly led to a “catastrophe of mass deaths” meant the compensation offer did not match the offer. severity of events.

“Given the conclusiveness of the experts’ conclusions and the seriousness of the facts described, Real Madrid has been holding talks with UEFA with the aim of assessing the compensation that will be offered to the fans,” a statement said.

“Our club was fully confident that these solutions would be commensurate with the seriousness of the facts, the magnitude of the damage caused and UEFA’s responsibility for the same.

“Unfortunately, our club believes that the UEFA proposal is insufficient. It consists solely of the reimbursement of the ticket price, which is also subject to compliance with a series of requirements, including accreditation of the time of access to the stadium.

“The content of the report highlights that all the fans who attended the final were victims of inadequate organization and their safety was compromised.

“Therefore, regardless of whether or not they were able to enter the stadium, or that they did so at the scheduled time -which in any case was due to the exceptionally good behavior of the fans of the two clubs-, the truth is that all the fans experienced an unacceptable delay in the start of the match.

“In addition, there was an unacceptable insecurity both to enter and to leave the stadium, in addition to additional damage such as robberies, assaults and threats (from local youth after the game).

For this reason, Real Madrid has decided not to cooperate in the restricted compensation procedure proposed by UEFA, which we ask to remedy the situation and assume full responsibility.

The club said it will offer assistance to all fans who wish to “make the appropriate claims against UEFA for their personal and legitimate interests.”
