Bristol Rovers ended a four-match losing streak with a difficult but fully deserved point against promotion-chasing Ipswich Town, with Jarell Quansah delivering a strong performance at the heart of the defence.

The Tractor Boys created 21 shots over the course of the 90 minutes but really, aside from two significant saves early in the competition, Ellery Balcombe was relatively comfortable with every save he had to make like Quansah, James Connolly, James Gibbons and Lewis. Gordon kept them mostly at a distance.

At the other end, there will be some frustration that Aaron Collins failed to make the most of his chances, while Scott Sinclair had a hooking second-half effort from the line with the unyielding home crowd having crossed.

Full time! Bristol Rovers 0-0 Ipswich Town

A great point for Gas and a performance full of heart, desire, delivery and discipline. The players are applauded and have worked very hard for that.

There will be some regret for not being able to win it too, with some goal sightings but, at the same time, the defense has been outstanding with headers, blocks, tackles and everything else.

Reaction on the way.

LARGE QUANSAH HEAD

He’s been doing this all night and the Rovers can breathe…for now.

ipswich corner

Gas’s holding up a bit here…

hirst broadheads

Ipswich have all the ball and Morsy selects Hirst running behind the Rovers defence, but he was reaching for the header and it goes comfortably wide.

Rovers break….

Collins takes it the full 50 yards, drawing two defenders, and throws a pass to Coburn, but the forward had made a slightly different run and can’t adjust his legs with Walton running to clear his lines.

Hirst almost caught Balcombe at the near post

Nervous moments there as Edwards runs down the right and selects Hirst, who spins and fires a low shot that almost goes through Balcombe’s legs, but almost enough to put him back for a corner.

airborne dominant ipswich

Evans’ delivery isn’t great, and hasn’t been all night, but the Tractor Boys have some big guys there and they clear another set piece.

hoole hacked

Clarke was asleep at the wheel there when Hoole passed the ball to him and the full-back stuck out a leg to catch the Rovers full-back across the chest. Yellow card and foul in good position.

Five minute notice!

Big five minutes this. It could go either way.

Rovers a bit on the defensive at the moment.

What a block for Quansah!

That looked like a sure goal when Chaplin fed the ball back to Broadhead, but when the former Everton striker struck his full-goal effort to aim, Quansah dove to deflect it back.

connolly heads

From the corner, Connolly fires a dart at the near post but heads it well over the crossbar.

Broad Deviated Collins

A deep cross from Evans almost found Coburn with the ball through a defender’s legs. In the second phase, Collins cut inside, received the slightest jerk from a defender preventing him from shooting, but was deflected from behind for a corner.

mobile vehicle system

Collins appears to have slipped into a left-sided midfield role with Coburn now leading the line.

It’s a look-alike on the right with Hoole replacing Anderson in the wing.

Double Rovers Submarine

Luca Hoole replaces Harry Anderson, who has put up some big yards tonight. Josh Coburn is also now taking over for Lamare Bogarde.

I’ll let you know in the system in a second.

Ipswich triple sub

Davis, Harness and Ladapo go for Conor Chaplin, Harry Clarke and George Hirst.

Broadhead chops the palms of Balcombe

An opening for the £1.5m when Davis laid a long diagonal his way and took a snap which was hit well but Balcombe held on well.

There is a pause in the game when Anderson and Evans receive treatment.

Anderson in office

A ball into space from Ward sent Anderson on his bike down the right touchline, but his touch was too strong and put him offside.

Was that inside?

Walton spills a cross and Sinclair forces it towards the goal. He looked like he might have crossed the line, but the flag stays down as the goalie delivers the ball.

gasoline corner

Evans shoots a good ball up high and Collins forces Burgess to concede a corner. A better delivery from Evans is required here.

fantastic defense

Sinclair makes a lung-busting recovery run to deny Donacien a great chance from eight yards.

Change of form

Gas has switched to a back three. Anderson and Gordon are the full-backs, with Gibbons moving to left center half.

ipswich corner

Balcombe is unable to keep the ball in play and concedes a corner.

The ball goes in too deep for anyone in the box, but Ipswich quickly earn another corner on the other side.

Quansah is clear.

Ipswich Submarines

Sone Aluko and Wes Burns are replaced by Nathan Broadhead and Kyle Edwards.

another corner

Walton tips Collins’ shot from a narrow angle that goes for a corner.

Evans’ corner goes offside.

gasoline corner

Anderson’s cross is deflected from behind for a corner.

Ipswich clean up their lines.

Reserve on the bench

A member of the Rovers bench, who we can’t see from the east stand, is booked for throwing a ball upfield to delay an Ipswich shot. It was not Barton, who was on the touchline.

over the bar

Ladapo runs towards a drop, but his completion lacks composure when fired from 18 yards.

Second time running

Bogarde puts the ball in motion for the second half. The Gases are attacking towards Thatchers Terrace.

Half-time: Rovers 0-0 Ipswich

Applause for the Gas at their level at halftime. Everything to play in the second part.

easy save

Freddie Ladapo spins and fires from 25 yards but it’s straight for Balcombe who has no problem holding.

Another chance for Collins

James Gibbons’ persistent run takes him past Davis and selects Collins with a low cross, but he is slightly behind the striker and runs him over the bar from 12 yards.

Chance

Sensational job by Evans in midfield to get past three men with a crazy run before slotting in a ball for Collins, but he’s down the stretch and can’t get any power out of his effort, so it’s a simple save for Walton.

good pass

Luke Wolfenden picks up a clever ball over the Rovers back four, but Humphreys heads it wide of the near post.

ipswich corner

A bit stagnant so far, but Ipswich has another corner. Davis continues to raise questions on the left.

A taunting cross curls up and Burgess narrowly heads in from the near post.

Corner

Strong hand from Balcombe as Leif Davis escapes behind Gibbons and delivers a dangerous cross.

Lewis Gordon intercepts before Sinclair clears it. He could have let go of Collins but he was tripping. However, no free throws were given.

gasoline corner

A positive run from Aaron Collins takes the Gases into the final third and they earn a corner when Antony Evans’s cross deflects wide behind.

Big chance for the Gas when Evans delivers a brilliant cross, but Quansah heads in from six yards.

Free shot

After an ominous start on the back foot, the Gases have found some momentum in the game and Harry Anderson wins a free kick on the right flank.

Jarell Quansah heads in and directs the ball into the six-yard box, but Ipswich are able to clear.

Corner

Ellery Balcombe’s punch goes offside.

Balcombe makes a couple of superb saves to deny Cameron Humpreys and Cameron Burgess. It was an orchestrated routine and Balcombe had to be very ready to avoid the first strike from the rim and got up quickly to block Burgess’s effort from close range.

Kick off

The visitors take the initial kick off. The rovers are attacking towards the South Stand.
