The Turkish Society of the University of Bristol has announced several days of fundraising for the victims of Monday’s earthquake.

The initial 7.8-magnitude quake struck southern Turkey at 4:17 a.m. local time Monday and was followed by a 7.5-magnitude aftershock at 1:25 p.m.

Neighboring nations Israel, Jordan and Lebanon felt the blows, but it was Syria and Turkey where the quakes did the most damage. The combined Syrian and Turkish death toll has surpassed 22,750 and is rising as rescue efforts continue, often in sub-zero conditions.

TurkSoc said Epigram: ‘As a Turkish society, this disaster affects us, so we want to do everything we can to help our brothers and sisters in our home country. This is likely to be a long-term situation, so as much income as possible is important and urgently needed.

‘Income can make a world of difference to affected families who have nothing right now, have lost their homes, or require search and rescue efforts to rescue members of the community. Any support and effort to support the Turkey-Syria earthquake is appreciated and every little detail is important.”

Yusuf Kerem Çalıkoğlu on Instagram: “Devastation has hit Turkey and Syria with two strong earthquakes that caused widespread destruction and affected the lives of many. In Turkey, more than 16,170 lives have been lost and the number is expected to rise. We can make a difference. From donating as much as possible to spreading awareness, every action counts. Swipe left to see the difference your 10 euros can make and how you can donate. Let us unite to support Turkey in this time of need.
