Julia Roberts, Floyd Mayweather and more American celebrities supporting Manchester United

Manchester United is one of the most supported football clubs in the world.

No other soccer team from this country benefits from such a worldwide following and this became clear during their tour of Australia in 2022. For their 2023 pre-season trip, Erik ten Hag’s team will visit the US Premier League.

While the tour matches have yet to be announced, it may be a chance for some of the Reds’ celebrity fans to see their team in action in America. With that in mind, MAN Sport has taken a look at five American celebrities who are supporters of United.

Julia Roberts

After Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola’s midweek revelations, it seems only right to start with the actress best known for her roles in Pretty Woman and Erin Brockovich. Roberts visited Manchester in 2016, choosing to take a guided tour at Old Trafford instead of visiting the Etihad Stadium.

It was not clear until Tuesday night how upset Guardiola was by this, but his comments seem to show he was affected by it. He explained: “Whatever happens in the Champions League this year, winning, even if we win this Champions League, three in a row will be a failure.

“I have three idols in my life: Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods and Julia Roberts. These are my three idols.

“For obvious reasons, Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods and Julia Roberts too. Julia Roberts came to Manchester, not in the ’80s and ’90s when (United) was with Sir Alex Ferguson winning title after title.

“She came during the period when we were better than United in the last four or five years. She went to visit Manchester United, she didn’t come to see us, so even if I win the Champions League, we won’t be there.” compared to the fact that Julia Roberts came to Manchester and didn’t come to see us, my idol.”

Megan fox

From actor to actor, Fox is best known for her role in the Transformers movies. However, she seems like she’s also a huge United fan and even has a favorite player.

During the 2009/10 season, Fox was seen wearing a United shirt on the red carpet. But her support for Javier Hernández goes further after she was seen in Los Angeles with a personalized shirt that paid tribute to Chicharito.

Floyd Mayweather

Mayweather’s support for United may not be as uncompromising as those above, but he still pledged his loyalty to the Reds. In an interview with Rio Ferdinand for BT Sport, the boxer was asked if he preferred United or City.

He replied, “Who got the best record? Who got the most championships?

“(United), well, that’s what we’re rocking with, baby. I still have to go to a football game, I’m waiting to go to a football game.”

“Eventually I want to go to one of the biggest soccer matches in the world.” In 2007, Mayweather even appeared at a pre-fight press conference with City fan Ricky Hatton, wearing a United jersey to try to get inside the Manchester-born fighter’s head.

Justin Timberlake

The multi-Grammy Award-winning singer has declared his support for United in the past and has become good friends with former Reds striker Alan Smith. Speaking in 2007, Timberlake said: “I’m red.

“I’m friends with Smithy, so he’s my favorite player, but (Cristiano) Ronaldo isn’t bad either. I also really like (Wayne) Rooney.”

“Smithy got me some tickets so I went to watch the home game against West Ham.”

Mystery King

WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio had the opportunity to complete a lifetime goal of many United fans by visiting the Reds’ training camp when they were in Los Angeles in 2018. The former world heavyweight champion took a Pictured with many members of the United team, including boss José Mourinho and Scott McTominay.

Goalkeeper David de Gea also presented Mysterio with a jersey that had the number 619 on the back, a reference to his famous finishing move in the wrestling company. Taking to Instagram after the visit, Mysterio said: “Thank you David de Gea for meeting today.

“It was a pleasure to be able to exchange gifts. I hope you like De Gea’s personalized mask. Thank you for the Manchester United hospitality.”
