Police confirm only one vehicle involved in M6 incident
National Highways reported that the accident involved multiple vehicles, but police have since confirmed that only one vehicle is involved, Echo reports.
Traffic is halted on the M6 and M60 motorways after two incidents, National Highways said.
The M6 motorway was halted in both directions between junction 26 for the M58 and junction 27 for Wigan after a multi-vehicle collision so that an air ambulance could land on the spot. The northbound expressway is now completely closed, while the southbound carriageway remains at a standstill for the air ambulance.
Currently there is about 20 minutes of delay and two miles of congestion. Delays are expected to develop quickly after the shutdown.

Three lanes of the clockwise M60 between junction 13 at Swinton and junction 15 at Bolton have been closed due to a vehicle fire. There are warnings that traffic is at a standstill as there are currently 40 minute delays and approximately six miles of congestion.
National Highways has advised that motorists should check their route before traveling. Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for information.

A spokesman for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just after 5pm on Tuesday 14 February, fire crews received reports of a vehicle on fire on the M60. clockwise between junctions 14 and 15.
“Three fire engines from Stretford, Whitefield and Farnworth stations promptly attended the incident. Firefighters used a hose reel to extinguish the fire and helped make the area safe.
“The GMFRS teams were present for about an hour.”

Three fire engines from Wigan and Chorley, along with Leyland’s water tanker and support fire truck, quickly attended to the incident, which involved a car.
‘Firefighters used a hose reel to extinguish a fire in the boot of the car and helped make the area safe. Crews from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service were on the scene for about 45 minutes”.

A6010 Wilbraham Road in both directions partly blocked, traffic slow due to accident: A car and lamp post were involved on Alexandra Road South, according to the Inrix traffic service.

There are long delays, queues of traffic and three lanes closed due to recovery work and a previous vehicle fire on the M60 clockwise at junction 13 A575 Walkden Road (Worsley). Travel time is about 60 minutes.

There is also one lane closed due to disabled vehicle on the M62, westbound from Junction 19 onto A6046 Middleton Road (Heywood) to J18 M66 J4 (Simister Island). Traffic is adjusting well, according to the Inrix traffic service.
