      LIVE: Traffic halted on M6 and M60 amid multi-vehicle crash and car fire

      Traffic is halted on the M6 ​​and M60 motorways after two incidents, National Highways said.

      The M6 ​​motorway was halted in both directions between junction 26 for the M58 and junction 27 for Wigan after a multi-vehicle collision so that an air ambulance could land on the spot. The northbound expressway is now completely closed, while the southbound carriageway remains at a standstill for the air ambulance.

      Currently there is about 20 minutes of delay and two miles of congestion. Delays are expected to develop quickly after the shutdown.

      Three lanes of the clockwise M60 between junction 13 at Swinton and junction 15 at Bolton have been closed due to a vehicle fire. There are warnings that traffic is at a standstill as there are currently 40 minute delays and approximately six miles of congestion.

      National Highways has advised that motorists should check their route before traveling. Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for information.
