Manchester United are considering signing Atalanta striker Rasmus Højlund after being impressed with his rapid development this season.

The 20-year-old joined the Serie A club from Sturm Graz last summer for a fee of around £15m and has repaid the trust placed in him by scoring eight goals in 23 games this season.

The Dane made his country debut on Thursday and scored a hat-trick against Finland in a Euro 2024 qualifier.

United will sign a centre-forward this summer and Erik ten Hag is weighing moves for Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen.

Højlund would not be considered in the same group given his age, but Danish publication Ekstra Bladet says United are eyeing the striker with a view to bidding for him this summer.

Atalanta is said to be up for offers of between £22 and £30 million and will consider cashing in on the striker.

In January, the forward admitted that he is a childhood fan of Manchester United.

“Now that you ask, I won’t hide the fact that I’m a huge Manchester United fan,” the striker said.

“So personally it would be one of the biggest things for me, but of course that doesn’t mean I would turn down other big clubs if the offers come at some point.”

Ten Hag is expected to spend the majority of his budget signing a centre-forward after spending £220m last summer.

The Dutchman can top up his budget through player sales, with the likes of Anthony Elanga, Anthony Martial, Harry Maguire and Alex Telles likely to be put up for sale.
