Former striker Louis Saha believes Manchester United should consider signing a striker like Brighton star Evan Ferguson this coming summer.

United, who will resume their Premier League campaign with a trip to Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon, will prioritize adding a striker this summer. Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Kane and Napoli star Victor Osimhen have established themselves as the main contenders to strengthen Erik ten Hag’s pool of attacking options.

The Dutchman, who is believed to have identified Kane as his preferred target, is in desperate need of a new source of goals. Both Kane and Osimhen are enjoying stellar campaigns this season and would significantly strengthen the United squad.

But as well as targeting an elite striker this summer, there have also been growing calls for United to target the addition of a high-potential backup striker. Brighton ace Ferguson, who grew up as a Reds supporter, has attracted a lot of attention in recent weeks after a string of eye-catching performances.

And former United ace Saha, who spent four years in the U16, believes Ferguson would be an ideal candidate for the Reds, should they plan to sign a young striker this summer.

Asked if United should be targeting youngsters like Ferguson, Saha told Betfred: “Yes. When you’re competing for trophies, you also need to continue to focus on attracting young players and bringing them to a level where they’re going to shine and be able to.” to be one of the best players in the world.

“It’s hard to find an 18-year-old at the highest level who is playing and scoring as much as Evan has been.

“You have to consider how you can bring the player into the team and a different system, but yeah, Evan is a very smart player and has a lot of mobility. I haven’t seen him enough to be sure of him as a player, but he’s certainly shown the threat it can be.”

Ferguson, who started the Republic of Ireland’s 1-0 loss to France in their last Euro qualifier on Monday night, has made 16 appearances for the Seagulls this season. He has scored seven goals and had three assists, establishing himself as one of the most exciting prospects in the Premier League.
