Manchester United will face Wrexham this summer in the United States.

The fixture was announced on Monday night, with a video featuring Sir Alex Ferguson and Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. The game takes place on Tuesday, July 25 at 7:30 pm PMT start time.

The match is the first confirmed by United for its Americas tour and will take place in San Diego. United will announce more opponents in due course.

For now, Wrexham is the only known opposition. The Welsh club are top of the National League and look set to win promotion to League Two for next season. Wrexham has been the subject of a great deal of media attention since Reynolds and McElhenney took over the club in 2021, thanks in part to a Disney+ documentary about their time in charge.

Tickets for the Wrexham match are now available on pre-sale to pre-registered fans and Manchester United season ticket holders, official members and Executive Club members. Tickets go on general sale from 16:00 GMT on Wednesday 29 March.

“This will be the first time the team has visited San Diego, and we look forward to playing in front of our passionate American fans at Snapdragon Stadium,” said John Murtough, United’s director of soccer. “Pre-season tours are always a great occasion to provide opportunities for our most promising young players from the academy to gain valuable experience in a first-team environment, and this game against Wrexham AFC is a great example of that.

“Manchester United have a history of nurturing and promoting youth and this is an opportunity not only for Erik but also for our American fans to take stock of the local talent being developed within our academy and hopefully say: ‘ I saw it here.” first’, if some of those players continue to establish themselves as first-team starters.”
