Usain Bolt surprises the Manchester United women’s team with a video message before the big clash

There are motivational messages and then there are motivational messages from the fastest man on the planet.

In a sport consumed by an obsession with the most marginal gains, it seems that even the messages of support must be more impressive than those received by your rivals. Manchester United are set to welcome West Ham Women to the Theater of Dreams on Saturday night, and longtime United fan and Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt has sent the team some words of encouragement.

“Hello ladies, I’m Usain,” he said. “They know I’m a big United fan and I heard they’re playing West Ham this Saturday, so I’m really excited. I just want to wish you all the best. I’ll be watching, I’ll be cheering, so go out and win, because that’s what we do. Come on!”

Marc Skinner’s team sit second in the WSL table and are only two points behind leaders Chelsea, although they played one more game.

However, with third-table Manchester City hosting the Blues on Sunday, a win for United over Sunday’s mid-table opponents could prove pivotal in a thrilling title race if Chelsea lose points to Gareth Taylor’s side.

History favors United, who boast a 100% winning record at Old Trafford, having played three games there in total. On their most recent visit, the Reds packed the stadium with a record crowd of 30,000 who saw United comfortably beat Aston Villa 5-0 earlier this season. A similar turnout is expected on Saturday.
