Watch Manchester’s skilled artists duke it out in Art Battle, coming to Salford this spring

Manchester’s most energetic art event, Art Battle, will debut in Salford this spring.

The event will take place on Friday, May 5 at dock10 studios in MediaCity.

This unique concept sees ten artists battle it out in front of up to 1,000 spectators to create a masterpiece in just 30 minutes.

Live-action arts organizers have already hosted 20 sold-out events at well-known downtown venues and are ready to bring an eclectic mix of artists, styles and skill sets to this high-energy event.

The event will be joined by a mix of independent local artists and merchants, with a confirmed appearance by Gogglebox star Helena Worthington.

Art Battle MCR will mark its 21st event at MediaCity, with a mix of personalized entertainment and never using the same venue twice.

Co-founder John Macaulay says, “We can’t wait to see the sun set over the docks as the artists go into battle.

“We have some great independent food and drink merchants based in Salford, so we will help raise awareness for them and our amazing artists. It will be a special night.

The event will also be joined by Manchester DJ duo The Soul Twins and DJ Peter G, with surprise entertainment yet to be announced.

Sophie Macaulay, the other co-founder of Art Battle MCR, says: “One of our artists described the concept as ‘Art for the people, by the people’, and I think I couldn’t have said it better.

“We love bringing together local talent and always have a few extra ‘tricks’ up our sleeves – think fire breathers, skaters, live bands…so you can’t miss this.”

The first Junior Art Battle MCR will take place on Sunday June 4th at the Lowry Theater as part of Salford’s new free festival, We Invented the Weekend. The festival, which celebrates differences in the way people spend their free time, will take place at MediaCity on June 3-4.

Art Battle MCR will take place at The Open Centre, dock10 studios, M50 2NT, from 7-11pm on May 5, 2023.
