Manchester City scout, Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson

Champions Manchester City have sent scouts to observe Nottingham Forest striker Brennan Johnson, according to Steve Kay from The Transfer Exchange Show.

The Citizens are one of several clubs that appear to be eyeing the Reds star. He has scored nine goals during 2022/23 in all competitions and is becoming sought after.

Johnson has made wonderful progress in recent years. He spent the 2020/21 season on loan at Lincoln City and hasn’t really looked back.

That season he scored 13 goals and claimed 14 assists as the Imps reached the League One play-off final.

Last season he returned to the Forest with a point to prove. He did it with some flair, scoring 19 goals and claiming 10 assists as the Reds reached the Premier League.

Now, he’s taking the top flight by round. He is one of the best players under 22 and there is more to come from him.

Johnson has been brilliant since the World Cup. He has been like a new player and now he is adapted to the Premier League.

City are considering Johnson as a replacement for Riyad Mahrez. The City man is not getting any younger and Pep Guardiola may want to refresh his squad.

Forest is getting to the point where keeping his star man may not be easy. The Reds need to make sure they stay awake this season and even then it might not be enough.

Johnson is poised for a bright future. There is no ceiling to his talent and earlier in the season Steve Cooper called him a ‘fantastic’ player.

City would provide a seriously attractive proposition for Johnson. They are blessed with endless talent and compete for titles every season.

Forest has work to do to retain Johnson. If the club stays in the Premier League, they will be able to charge a much higher fee and that is the goal at the moment.
