NBL1 Recap: March 11/12, 2023: Live Streams, Stats & More

While Hemel was busy claiming another trophy, there was plenty of D1M action this weekend.

Hemel’s extra-time thriller against Worthing meant the top two weren’t in league action in recent days, but there were still eight games spread over the past weekend with key wins for Derby, Reading and others.

There’s a recap of all the action below and you can also click on each result to see the live stats.

Team Newcastle University (11-11) 100-84 Nottingham Hoods (11-14)

The Newcastle team began their weekend with a great victory over their playoff rivals Nottingham with a final score of 100-84.

The game formed the first leg of a back-to-back double header between the sides, with the North East hosts coming away with a midfielder thanks to a 32-14 first quarter and 30 points from Jordan May.

May was well backed by Makhi Morris, who finished with 22 points, and Josh Moore (13pts, 6reb, 5ast).

The game looked out of control early in the second half as Newcastle’s lead came within a step of the 30-point mark, but Nottingham fought back to cut their deficit to nine midway through the fourth quarter.

That was the closest the Hoods got, however, with Johde Campbell contributing a team-high 22 points.

The win helped maintain Newcastle’s playoff aspirations, while Nottingham likely needed a pair of weekend wins given the limited number of games remaining compared to the post-season chasers around them.

Elsewhere this weekend

London Lions II (6-16) eased their relegation fears with a narrow 77-75 win against essex rebels (7-15), thanks in part to a 21-point, eight-rebound effort from Ignas Juskevicius. American Owen Chose fired off the Rebels’ loss, closing with 34 points.

Team Solent Kestrels (11-11) couldn’t use home field advantage to upset high-flyers derby pioneers (16-5), with DTB leading 84-78. Solent’s Ricky Madison (23pts, 15reb) and Derby’s Raheem May-Thompson (21pts, 8reb) went head-to-head before the visitors got the better of him.

Knights of the Thames Valley (11-12) began their two-headed weekend with a 108-95 victory against Bradford Dragons (11-11). Bode Adeluola had a productive game to drop 32 points while dishing out eight assists, doing more than enough to get TVC over the line.

the magic of manchester (4-18) Fading survival hopes were dealt another blow as the North West side lost 85-74 against Loughborough Riders (12-10). The Riders enjoyed 24 points from Elijah Bailey and 20 more off the bench from Joe Bielak, canceling out a double-double of 30 points and 10 rebounds from Manchester’s Andre Gayle.

A 30-15 opening quarter sank Westminster Warriors (2-20) as the top four candidates reading rockets (13-9) raced to an 88-73 victory to start yesterday’s action.

The quick start ensured the hosts led from wing to buzzer, aided by Troy Cracknell’s impressive 28 points and 19 boards.

Nottingham got some revenge against newcastle in the second leg of their doubleheader, rebounding from Saturday’s loss to win 91-73.

Joshua Guddemi (29pts, 13reb) and Seth Hall (27pts, 7reb, 7ast) put together a formidable double team for the hosts while Josh Moore (17pts, 12reb, 8ast) flirted with a triple-double for Newcastle.

The weekend ended with Thames Valley and London Lions II also doubling down, with the Cavs sealing an 89-76 victory.

Bode Adeluola was back in top form as he scored 26 for the hosts, and former Nottingham Hoods guard Victor Olarerin also finished with 26 points. Igor Stokic had a double-double of 21 points and 15 rebounds for the Lions, but it wouldn’t be enough.
