Newcastle United official injury update for trip to Nottingham Forest

An official injury update from Newcastle United on Thursday morning.

Eddie Howe speaking before Friday’s game.

A massive game in which Newcastle United aim to achieve back-to-back Premier League victories before this international break.

A win at The City Ground would see Newcastle close to just one point behind fourth-placed Tottenham, with the NUFC still having one game to go.

While a win over Forest would see Newcastle United pull ahead of Manchester United if they also beat them in the following game on Sunday April 2 at St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe giving the following Newcastle United injury update.

Overall, it sounds pretty positive.

The Newcastle United head coach has admitted that the ankle injury suffered by Anthony Gordon against Man City 12 days ago is a little more serious than a couple of weeks’ absence BUT he hopes to have the January signing available for Man U within 17 days. The international break gives him that bit of extra time without games, to help get the former Everton star back on form.

Other than that, Eddie Howe has told the media that the injury/availability situation is very similar to last week against Wolves.

Needless to say some players have missed training at times this week as the club is handling/taking care of the bumps/injuries some team members are having.

Eddie Howe says he hopes to have “most” of his first-team contenders available.

Today’s Newcastle United injury update fits in with what we saw/learned on Wednesday.

Photos posted by Newcastle United showing Wednesday’s training and the following 18 first-team players from what we could see:

Miguel Almiron, Elliot Anderson, Harrison Ashby, Sven Botman, Dan Burn, Mark Gillespie, Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak, Jamaal Lascelles, Jamal Lewis, Javier Manquillo, Jacob Murphy, Matt Ritchie, Allan Saint-Maximin, Fabian Schar, Matt Targett, Kieran Trippier Joe Willock

The ones you don’t see…

With Mark Gillespie as the only goalkeeper in the official images of the club, no trace of Nick Pope, Martin Dubravka or Loris Karius. I can’t imagine this is something to worry about, an innocent explanation instead of the three other guardians being injured!

More worryingly, there was no sign of Callum Wilson. Eddie Howe said after Sunday’s game that the number nine hadn’t been able to train properly last week, so he’s crossing his fingers that at least he can return to the bench.

Sean Longstaff also didn’t appear in the released images, I hope he’s okay. Especially with Joelinton already guaranteed to fail. He’s suspended and can’t be seen in club training photos, so perhaps he’ll be given some time off with the family before the NUFC team travels to Dubai for a warm-weather training camp. after this Forest game.

Another unseen Paul Dummett, the Geordie left-back was not a first-team contender as things currently stand, so no need to worry about him. Eddie Howe has Burn, Targett and Lewis as left-back options.

As previously reported, Ryan Fraser is now training with the Under 21s, which explains his absence. While Emil Krafth remains injured.

Eddie Howe had already said that he didn’t expect to have Anthony Gordon back until after the international break, so it’s no surprise he wasn’t seen.

Among the first team players in training you could see some Under 21s, including Lewis Miley and Rodrigo Vilca.
