Nottingham Forest man Richie Laryea named in MLS Team of the Week

Nottingham Forest’s Richie Laryea was named in the MLS Team of the Week for his performance over the weekend. Toronto FC defeated David Beckham’s Inter Miami 2-0.

Laryea found it difficult to find regular football at Forest. He signed for the Toronto club during the January 2022 transfer window, but made only five appearances.

The Reds player was signed as a backup option in the event of Djed Spence’s injury. However, the 22-year-old proved a reliable player and Laryea was unable to get in.

After promotion to the Premier League, the writing was a bit on the wall. Laryea was linked with a few clubs in the Championship, but ultimately made an emotional return to Toronto FC.

The Canadian team secured their first win of the new season over the weekend. Laryea recorded his second assist of the season and clearly enjoys playing for the MLS team.

It is unclear what the future holds for Laryea at the City Ground. If the Reds are relegated this season then he could get a reprieve, but if Forest remains in the top flight they are likely to be dumped.

First, the 28-year-old hopes to help Toronto enjoy a positive MLS campaign. They have found results hard to come by and are hoping to build on their latest victory.

Forest has to be happy that Laryea is playing regular soccer and having fun. The Reds have a plethora of right-back options and perhaps loaning him out was the best move.

The club would still be in a good position for the summer. Laryea has a contract with Forest until 2025 and any club that wants him permanently will have to pay.

When opportunities presented themselves, it looked good for Forest. He was quick, loved to get ahead and was also useful when it came to defending in his own penalty area.

What the future holds remains to be seen. Laryea will keep his head down for now and talks with Forest are likely to take place during the summer transfer window.
