Derek Adams admits the Shrimps need to go to Hillsborough and try to upset an in-form Sheffield Wednesday side.

The Owls have not lost a league game since October, a 2-1 defeat at Plymouth Argyle, and Darren Moore’s men take on Morecambe with the Sky Bet League One summit in the back of their minds.

Adams’s team traveled to Hillsborough for the FA Cup first round match in November, and he hopes the familiarity can help the Shrimps surprise promotion hopefuls.

“As a team, we have to go there and try to surprise,” he said.

“Going there, we know the place, even though it wasn’t crowded the night we were there.

“Now season ticket holders can come back and come to the game, but we understand the players they have, we know Darren Moore has done an excellent job there, he’s had the resources to do it, we understand.

“I have great respect for teams in this division that have fantastic fan bases, history and balance sheets to show for it.

“That’s not to say that it always goes well for them, we’ve had surprises in the past, we go there, and it would be a surprise for us to win, we understand that.”

After Tuesday night’s game, the Shrimps will have faced Ipswich Town, Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday in back-to-back away fixtures.

The gaffer feels that experiences like these can help with bonding and team spirit, something he previously admitted his team has in abundance.

“It takes you a long way, there’s no question about it,” Adams added.

“The unity and the team spirit in a team can take you very, very far, I have seen it in the past.

“Yes, we need players with the ability to open up defenses and score goals, but that spirit of everyone working in the same direction certainly helps you.”
