Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore felt his team were “very worthy” of their 3–0 win against Morecambe at Hillsborough.
A first-minute goal from Barry Bannan and a brace from Josh Windass gave the Owls a comfortable victory over the Shrimps.
Moore said: “Obviously it was a perfect start for us. Barry (Bannan) brings a lot to the team so I’m glad he got the goal.
“He gave us an early push and I also felt that getting the second goal in that first half was important.
“The second half was not how I thought it would be. I thought as Morecambe was losing they would go out, but they sat down and kept the block low; we looked for spaces to exploit but credit to them because they defended well.
“We kept the ball moving and eventually we managed to find that third goal. It was a great display of explosive pace from Fisayo (Dele-Bashiru) and I’m pleased with another goal from Josh (Windass).
“I am happy with the team for achieving the clean sheet record. A lot of work has gone into getting those clean sheets and we’ve had a lot of different defensive combinations that the guys can be proud of.
“I think it is a victory that we deserve. May it continue for a long time and hopefully we continue to improve. There is a lot of the season ahead of us and we have to keep what we are doing if we want to achieve something.”
Morecambe boss Derek Adams said his side showed character despite the result.
Adams said: “It was always going to be a tough night for us and when we concede so quickly and go on defense right away, it makes it even tougher. Shortly after he got the second goal.
“We came here to win. We decided to go with two forwards for the game, but it just didn’t work out for us.
“We felt that the second goal could have been offside and for the goal at the end there seemed to be a hand, but they didn’t give us any.
“To be fair, I thought the players stuck there and showed great character. Obviously, Sheffield Wednesday are a great club and are in great form.
“In the end I felt that we limited them to few opportunities. They had a lot of the ball but there wasn’t much in the game in the second half.
“In our last few games we have been through very difficult places in Ipswich, Derby and Sheffield Wednesday. Of course we would love to win these games, but they will not define our season. Winning games against the teams around us on base will do that.”
