Sheffield Wednesday have seen their automatic promotion hopes take a worrying two hits, which has put the nerves on edge for a previously buoyant Hillsborough side.

Sheffield Wednesday’s 23-game unbeaten run in the league ended with back-to-back defeats to Barnsley and Forest Green Rovers. Defeats have seen the Owls cede ground to Plymouth Argyle in the title race, while Ipswich Town and the aforementioned Types also close the gap.

However, regardless of which division you are in on Wednesday, transfers will be made this summer. Here, we look at five transfers that could unfold at Hillsborough when the window opens…

Sam Reed – In?

Non-league defender Reed’s time with Sheffield Wednesday U21s has been well documented, making quite an impression since joining the Owls’ youngsters at trial. It seems increasingly likely that he too will stick around for good, despite returning to finish the season with Brighouse Town.

Is Aden Flint staying?

Loan Flint is out of contract at Stoke City in the summer and given the likelihood of his departure, a possible stay at Hillsborough is something Moore has been questioned about.

If the Owls want to keep the towering veteran, there may not be much on the way to a deal. However, it remains to be seen what stance he will take on Wednesday, so Flint will be eager to impress in the closing stages of the season to prove he deserves to stay.

Players without a contract

Moore and company will have to make decisions about the future of some of their players this summer. Regardless of how the fight for the promotion ends, you’d think there would be exits when the offers run out.

Some players like Barry Bannan, George Byers and Josh Windass have extension options included, but decisions may have to be made on players like Jack Hunt and Jaden Brown as they see their deals shrink.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru – Out?

The Dele-Bashiru situation has long been a topic of conversation amid previous interest in his services and with his contract situation unresolved heading into the summer, it will be interesting to see if the dynamic midfielder ends up heading to new pastures.

Game time hasn’t been particularly consistent for the former Manchester City talent, so it might not come as much of a surprise if he retires in the summer.

Is Reece James staying?

After an impressive time at Hillsborough, there will be people hoping that Blackpool loan James will stick around permanently. He has been a huge hit with the supporters and impressed for Moore’s side, but it remains to be seen where he stands on Wednesday and what parent club Blackpool have planned for him.
