Host Dan Walker ‘sure’ he’s not at fault after bike accident

Former BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker has said he is “sure it’s not my fault” after being knocked off his bike in a crash on Monday. The 45-year-old first shared the news of the incident with a post on Instagram, showing him with cuts on his face and a bloody nose.

Writing in The Sunday Times newspaper tomorrow, Walker said he “could have died” but confirmed he cannot recall any details of the incident in Sheffield. He said: “There’s nothing there yet, so a big part of me is very happy.

“I can’t go into details right now because it could take another week for the police to release their report but after speaking with Conor (a police officer) I am confident that I am not at fault and hope this can be resolved. resolved out of court. I know I could have died, but I also know how easy it is to make a mistake, even when you’re trying to be careful.

“I really can’t remember what they (the driver) looked like, from that moment they were looking at me when I turned around, but I do remember that they looked deeply distraught and I imagine that is all they are thinking at the moment. That Monday could have been the day that changed her life forever. I asked Conor if he could talk to the driver if he was okay with it. I’ll let you know what happens.

Walker thanked the police, NHS and ambulance services, friends and family and members of the public who helped him after the accident. Walker also said that he hated “doing nothing” and confirmed that he hopes to return to his role as Channel 5 newscaster next week.

“As long as the swelling and bruising has subsided I think I’ll be back to work later this week,” he wrote. Channel 5 has been brilliant. They sent me some chocolates in the mail. I sucked on the caramel one and will be back to the rest once my mouth returns to full power.”
