Middlesbrough’s promotion claim from former Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock ahead of the Huddersfield Test

Neil Warnock says he “doesn’t see anyone stopping Middlesbrough” from being promoted this season. The 74-year-old came out of retirement from him this season to try and lead Huddersfield Town to Championship safety.

The Terriers are currently trailing, third bottom and three points adrift with eight games remaining. On Saturday he faces his old club, Middlesbrough, with fans of another of his previous teams, Sheffield United, hoping to do them a big favor.

Sheffield United are visiting Norwich and will start the day three points clear of Michael Carrick’s side. Any point Warnock’s Huddersfield can take will be welcome indeed.

Under Carrick, the old Warnock club soared up the table. Boro have won 16 of their 22 matches to move up to third and put pressure on Paul Heckingbottom’s side.

And Warnock is giving Middlesbrough a tip not only to be promoted this term, but also to stay there.

“I really want the club to move on now that Michael has taken over,” Warnock told Northern Echo’s You Are My Boro podcast.

“I’m delighted that they’re doing well. I can’t see anyone stopping them from going up, really. Not only do I see Boro going up, but I also see them holding up.”
