Paul Heckingbottom’s ‘exciting’ message from Sheffield United with Middlesbrough and Luton in hot pursuit

Paul Heckingbottom knows his team’s promotion fortunes won’t be decided this weekend, but Sheffield United can “take the pressure off” with two big wins. The Blades welcome last club Wigan to Bramall Lane on Friday, before traveling to Turf Moor on Monday.

Easter weekend is traditionally a big one on the EFL calendar, with two games in the space of four days that can have a big impact on the league table. The teams at the top and bottom are fighting over points for different reasons and this weekend could well see even more twists and turns.

Heckingbottom says everyone connected to Sheffield United, from the players and staff to the fan base, should enjoy the position they’re in and welcome the pressures that come with it.

“In general, in football, this weekend is important,” Heckingbottom explained in his pre-match press conference today. “If you’re still on the hunt for things, you can take the pressure off yourself and all these kinds of things.

“Where we are, this weekend is the same as every other, it’s big games and we have two big games every week. We know we’re in contention for two big competitions and it’s exciting.”

“As I keep saying all the time, this is where you want to be. Our message here is to enjoy this and we’re enjoying it.”

“To be where we are, in the latter stages of the biggest cup competition in the world and to be in an automatic promotion position at this stage of the season, we are over the moon with that.
