Sheffield Wednesday’s young defender will join the senior setup after injury sacking and loan withdrawal

Ryan Galvin is set to join Sheffield Wednesday’s senior squad when he returns from injury later this month.

Owls boss Darren Moore has confirmed the plan is for the defender to rejoin the first-team setup after his loan spell with Maidstone United was interrupted. Galvin was loaned to the National League club in September and played in 23 games before suffering a muscle injury.

He returned to Hillsborough last month and is now on his way back to fitness. Predominantly a left-back, Galvin now hopes to make his way into Moore’s thoughts as he fast approaches the end of the season.

When asked about yorkshire live On the defender’s situation, Moore said: “He’s back here and has been with us for a month or so. He suffered a muscle injury and we feel where our medical team is and with the equipment we have available here, and him being our player. , we wanted him to recover here.

“He’s making wonderful strides. I think he could be back with the main group next week or in a couple of weeks. It gives us a chance to get him ready, fit and available again and we can see him.”

Galvin has made four senior starts for the Owls, all in cup competition. He is just one of a group of young Wednesdays who have been sent out on loan this season. Ciaran Brennan is another youngster who was in impressive form for Swindon’s temporary employers before he suffered a season-ending injury. Moore says they are both looking to follow in the footsteps of goalkeeper Cameron Dawson, who excelled in a season-long loan deal with Exeter last term, helping them win promotion.

“He’s given games at a competitive level and he looks stronger,” Moore said of Galvin’s season at Kent. “He looks more mature and we’ll see how these next few weeks go.
